My Environmental Program:
3 High Quality Goals:
1. Recycled Content: Use as much content(earth/Foundations, etc.) as is presently available on site
2. Passive Solar: Side and Top indirect diffuse light. Overhangs and recesses, etc.
3. Energy Efficiency: Use of high quality insulation and Natural materials to reduce the energy footprint
3 Low Quality Goals:
1. Gray Water Usage
2.Active Solar for hot water
3. Leed 'Silver' Certification Planning
The Strategy here is to reduce the overall energy and water burden on the site and in the context of the greater urban environment.

Concerning the grey water usage, I have always wondered how much energy runs down the drain everytime one takes a shower, or washes their hands.... I pay for energy to heat water to take a shower, and then all that hot water runs down the drain and is lost... I understand the the water needs to be treated at that point, but there must be an efficient way to reclaim some of that heat as the hot water runs down the drain..??? you'd think... that is an awful lot of hot water that goes to waste (no pun intended)
I think the idea of recovering some of the hot water /grey water energy loss would be to use a exchager at the lowest point of the water system to convert the waste water "heat" as a pre-heat for clean water usage. Eutectic salts could be used without need for puification. Much like an air heat exchanger wheel. This is current technology.
